Men’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Swarthmore College

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa.- The Penn State Abington men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2014 season Saturday night losing to Swarthmore College by a 1-0 score.

The Nittany Lions were outshot 10-8 for the game, with the Blue and White managing only two shots on goal for the entire match. Senior goalkeeper Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.) stopped three shots for the game.

Swarthmore's Ryan Meuth was able to break through in the 19th minute on a penalty kick to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead. That was Meuth's first goal of the season. Abington would trail 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.

The game would get much tougher for Abington in the second half.

Abington senior midfielder Guy Sipka (Philadelphia, Pa.), who picked up a yellow card in the 35th minute, was issued a second yellow card in the 48th minute which resulted in a red card. Sipka was dismissed from the match and Abington had to play with 10 men for the remainder of the contest.

Abington had a couple of scoring chances in the second half, but ultimately playing down a man was too much for the Nittany Lions to overcome.

With the loss, Abington drops to 0-1-1 on the season. They will return to action next Saturday Sept. 6th as they travel to Lynchburg, Va. to square off with the Wildcats of Randolph College. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. You can follow live game stats and video of the game right here on www.abingtonsports.com.
