Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa.- The Penn State Abington men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2014 season Saturday night losing to Swarthmore College by a 1-0 score.
The Nittany Lions were outshot 10-8 for the game, with the Blue and White managing only two shots on goal for the entire match. Senior goalkeeper
Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.) stopped three shots for the game.
Swarthmore's Ryan Meuth was able to break through in the 19
th minute on a penalty kick to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead. That was Meuth's first goal of the season. Abington would trail 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.
The game would get much tougher for Abington in the second half.
Abington senior midfielder Guy Sipka (Philadelphia, Pa.), who picked up a yellow card in the 35
th minute, was issued a second yellow card in the 48
th minute which resulted in a red card. Sipka was dismissed from the match and Abington had to play with 10 men for the remainder of the contest.
Abington had a couple of scoring chances in the second half, but ultimately playing down a man was too much for the Nittany Lions to overcome.
With the loss, Abington drops to 0-1-1 on the season. They will return to action next Saturday Sept. 6
