PHOENIX — If you’re moving and looking for a change of scenery, you needn’t look too long: An Arizona city has been named one of the best places to relocate to before it gets popular.

Bisbee was one of 15 cities to appear on the list compiled by Thrillist. The lifestyle website said it asked dozens of writers to choose from any American city with a population under 70,000 in which to put down roots.

Going by the description alone, it’s a wonder Bisbee’s 5,000 or so residents have not seen a flood of U-Hauls pouring into the southern Arizona town:

The average house will cost just $130K; your neighbors will be a mix of rough-and-tumble miners, writers, painters, old-school hippies, new-wave hippies, and recovering yuppies — including artists and University of Arizona academics who have decamped from the “big city” two hours away.

The website also pointed out that Bisbee’s mile-high altitude ensures cooler summer temperatures and a city bustling with art galleries and shops.

The city is home to plenty of history. The oldest hybrid football-baseball field in the nation is Warren Ballpark, which is just southeast of the downtown area.

Bisbee was also named the best historic town in the nation last year, along with the best hippie town in Arizona.

We want to hear from you.
