Nashville based singer-songwriter Marla gets deep down to the truth of her emotions with "Try Telling My Heart That." Enjoy her first-ever music video here!

Emerging country artist Marla deserves your undivided attention! The Nashville based singer-songwriter grew up an hour from New York City in Connecticut, where she fell in love with creatively truthful storytelling and sonically bold songs. It comes as no surprise that she notes a wide array of powerhouse influences such as Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Fleetwood Mac, and the King himself, George Strait.

While attending Nashville’s Belmont University, Marla began to embrace the fact that her brand of songwriting didn’t quite fit into any of the standard Nashville molds. She has spent her time in Music City cultivating her songwriting and vocal craft by studying the art of country music— the music she fell in love with as a child— while honoring her desire to be sonically innovative. By the time she was 21-years-old, she released three EPs, all of which were featured on iTunes, and quickly allowed her to garner a devoted fan base, reaching people as far away as Australia. It wasn’t long before Nashville began to take notice, as she has shared the stage with the likes of Chuck Wicks, Kix Brooks, and Lorrie Morgan.

Grammy nominated producer Brad Hill (Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne) and producer-songwriter Joe Fox have teamed up with Marla and the result is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Together, they have developed a sound that perfectly complements Marla’s warm vocal tone. Hill says, “‘Try Telling My Heart That’ is one of those timeless songs that made my job easy. Marla’s artistry shines in both this song and in her vocal performance.”

“Grant, Witt and I wrote ‘Try Telling My Heart That’ a few years ago and it’s a song that has been special to us since the day we wrote it,” shares Marla. “It became the cornerstone for my music sonically, lyrically, and conceptually because it exemplifies my love for the city scape and for heartfelt, honest storytelling.” Her gripping debut music video, directed by Justin Nolan Key, was shot amongst the looming skyscrapers of New York City.
