Two years ago, a couple of kids at 229 Congress Street learned the hard way that lighting sparklers with a toaster oven in an apartment bedroom is no way to ring in Independence Day. Among the damage wrought by the subsequent blaze, which harmed surprisingly no one, was the closing of fledgling clothing shop The Haberdashery, which subsequently fled to the Arts District where it now operates.

With the building recently coming under new ownership and undergoing substantial renovations, word has reached Eater that a man named Cory Suzuki and his father are planning to convert at least one of the ground-level units to a Japanese noodle bar. They told a source that they have signed a lease and are optimistically aiming for an October opening; otherwise details are scant. For the sake of East End residents who have trouble reaching Pai Men Miyake in the dead of winter when its hearty bowls are most crucial, cross your fingers that the owners hit their goal. If you have any more information to share about this upcoming restaurant, by all means, tip away.
