Pour yourself a cup of coffee and prepare to settle in for some fast talking, because I have some very exciting news for you: We finally know when Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will debut — and we’ve got the first peek at what it’s going to look like.
Netflix has announced that its highly anticipated Gilmore Girls revival will premiere globally on Thanksgiving weekend: November 25, 2016, at 12:01 am Pacific. As previously announced, A Year in the Life will consist of four 90-minute episodes. Each one will cover a different season of the year, with the first taking place in winter and last taking place in the fall.
There’s no word yet as to whether Netflix plans to release all four episodes at once, which is the company’s usual model, or whether it will launch them on a rolling schedule. Showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino has said that she’d prefer them to be released at least a day apart. Update: Sherman-Pallidino apparently confirmed at today's Gilmore Girls TCA panel that all four episodes will be released at once.
As for what the new episodes hold for our Gilmore Girls? Well…
The trailer, which clocks in at just under a minute and a half, is pretty light on plot details, but Gilmore Girls has never been a plot-driven show. What drives its story is Rory and Lorelai and their relationship, and the trailer shows them at their fast-talking best.
Lorelai has apparently gotten addicted to late-night cable, because she wants to know if Rory thinks Amy Schumer would like her. No, says Rory. After a lengthy and weirdly timely riff on corpse flowers (you can watch one blossom right now on the New York Botanical Garden’s live stream!), Rory points out that Amy Schumer is into water sports. And for our profoundly sports-averse Gilmores, that’s a no-go.
Well, says Lorelai, would John Oliver be attracted to her?
I, for one, think that this is an issue of grave import to the American people, and I demand that John Oliver address it immediately. I’ll be waiting. We have until November 25 to get to the truth of the matter.
