Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey runs past Morrisville 6-2

Senior Andrea Day leads attack with pair of goals

Senior Andrea Day (Greene/Greene) scored two goals and added one assist in leading the SUNY Oneonta field hockey team past Morrisville, 6-2, in the final SUNYAC game for both squads.  The victory for the Red Dragons raised its overall record to 9-6 while finishing with a 5-1 record in the conference, which is the best record they have ever had since the SUNYAC brought back field hockey as a conference sport in 2000.

Oneonta has already clinched the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament, which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at home versus New Paltz, who is the No. 3 seed.

Oneonta fell behind in the 13th minute when Lauren Kellum converted off a penalty corner.

The Red Dragons then seized control of the game with three goals in a span of 10 minutes to gain a 3-1 advantage.  Sophomore Bailee Barrett (Camden/Camden) got Oneonta started in the 16th minute with an assist from Day.  Freshman Casey Stata (Round Lake/Shenendehowa) notched her first collegiate goal in the 25th minute before senior Sierra Earle (Baldwinsville/Baldwinsville) scored her second of the season less than a minute later to give the Red Dragons a 3-1 lead.

Morrisville would score its final goal of the contest at the 31 minute mark to cut Oneonta's lead to 3-2 heading into the break.

Back-to-back goals by Day in the first seven minutes of the second half gave Oneonta a 5-2 lead.  Hannah Hayward (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) assisted on the first goal while Earle assisted on the second Day goal.

Sophomore Sharon Wohl (East Northport/Commack) capped the scoring for the Red Dragons with her first collegiate goal off an assist by freshman Madeline Reilly (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon), who collected her first collegiate point.

Senior Tess Tracy (Liverpool/Liverpool) and junior Krista Servedio (Shrub Oak/Lakeland) split the game today in goal for Oneonta.  Tracy made a pair of saves to pick up her eighth win of the season while Servedio made one save in the second half.

Oneonta will be at Hartwick College on Thursday for a contest beginning at 4pm.
