Syfy has given a third-season order to drama series “Defiance” and a sophomore season nod to its Thursday companion, “Dominion.”

Both series hail from Universal Cable Prods. Both have 13-episode orders to return next year.

“Defiance” (pictured) revolves around the battles of seven alien races existing on a much-changed planet Earth. The show has been Syfy’s big experiment with transmedia storytelling as the series’ storylines are intricately designed to mesh with the narrative of “Defiance” vidgame series produced by Trion Worlds.

Drama vet Kevin Murphy is exec producer and showrunner of “Defiance.”

“Dominion,” based on the 2010 pic “Legion,” is set in post-apocalypse world and revolves around the struggles between angels and humans. Vaun Wilmott is exec producer and showrunner. Bold Films co-produces with Universal Cable Prods.
