Ages varied from young adults to just four and most participants and their families camped on site at the Dorrigo Showground.
The camp is an annual event and aims to teach young riders a variety of riding skills and safety techniques. Activities included bare back riding, jumping, horse ball, polo cross and teams event.
The camp culminated with a gymkhana and parade through Dorrigo’s central business district. Organisers said the 2014 camp was one of the best in recent years with an increase in the number of riders.
The camp involves serious support from parents, caterers and experienced riders and show judges. Supervision, security, safety and the provision of big meals for hungry kids are just a few of the challenges for organisers.
