Time Crisis is coming back to arcades

Bandai Namco's venerable light gun series is coming back. The arcade game developer unveiled Time Crisis 5 at an event in Japan this weekend, heralding the shooting game's return to arcades next year.

Time Crisis 5 mixes up the light gun shooting formula by adding left and right foot pedals — the franchise has used a foot pedal controller for moving in and out of cover — that will let players flank enemies. According to a report from Impress Game Watch, the massive arcade cabinet for Time Crisis 5 includes a pair of 55 inch monitors and a gun controller that lets players cycle through weapons. The arcade game also supports Bandai Namco's Bana Passport for players who want to save their progress.

The Time Crisis series kicked off in 1996 with the original arcade game. The most recent entry in the main series, Time Crisis 4, first hit in 2006. Bandai Namco released the most recent console version of the franchise, Time Crisis: Razing Storm for PlayStation 3, which was a compilation of light gun games, including Time Crisis 4 and spin-off Razing Storm.

Time Crisis 5 hits Japanese arcades March 2015. Here's a look at the game's flier.
