I spent quite a bit of time on Father's Day last Sunday thinking about fathers and the role they play in our lives... and how they
shape so much of who we are and what our lives and homes, and thus our society are ...

There is always some sadness for me on Father's Day as my daughters' father ♡Russ died 16 years ago (at age 47) and I know how much they miss him and his influence....... and him being there in their lives.
One of his greatest joys (and biggest pain when he knew he would die young) was being their dad or StarPa, as they affectionately called him, and being there to protect and guide and look out for them and be their biggest and proudest and beaming admirer.
This got me thinking about how grateful I am that there is the Generations~Dialogue Workshop which gives us both as parents AND children the opportunity to share with each other the deepest things we want (and need) to say to each other..... and about how we can't do this too often or too soon....and it also got me thinking about how afraid most people are to be this intimate with their parents and the other way round - with their
adult children.
And I am disappointed to report that there aren't yet any registrations of fathers and children for the Generations~Dialogue Workshop.
In his excellent book "How Can I Get Through To You: Reconnecting Men To Women" ♡
Terry Real says most men grow up with a societal MYTH that he calls the "MASCULINE CODE" - a code that says that men don't need relationships.
"Not only is this a lie......it's a very destructive lie", he says.
Yet we do NOT raise boys and men to BE intimate. We raise boys to become strong, competitive performers and solution finders....."
The very "code" of masculinity they learned as boys (being tough, being a man of few words, being a man of action) guarantees that they will become lousy husbands , lovers and fathers.
Yet our experience has generally been that g
uys/blokes long to feel close too.
Men want to ♡LOVE and be loved.
And they want to make their partners and families happy and learn how to do it well.
So my challenge to the men reading this is to think again about the benefits you will receive from participating in the Generation~Dialogue Workshop - Don't wait for the magical Someday!
Those who are fathers invite your children and t
hose who are children ask your parents. My hunch is you will be surprised, blown away and so very grateful if you do.
♡Shelton and I had a chat today about what we regretted not knowing about our fathers and mothers and parts of their lives.....it was a very precious sharing and we learnt things about each other that we didn't know as well as I learned things about myself as I am sure ♡Shelton did too.
