MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers are making some waves in the NCAA Division II women’s soccer rankings this week.

The Bucs (3-0-0) jumped into the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll this week at number eight after receiving votes in the pre-season poll. The jump comes on the heels of a 1-0 win over previously #10-ranked North Georgia in Melbourne, Fla., over the weekend. The Nighthawks dropped to 15 in the current poll.

The Bucs also sit on top of the South Regional rankings. Rollins, who started the season ranked ninth, dropped to 11 in the national poll after a loss to Columbus State. Tampa, the third Sunshine State Conference team in the rankings, slipped from 15 to 19.

Two other rankings, which use computer models, think even more highly of the Buccaneers. Both Top Drawer Soccer and BennettRank have the Bucs slotted in at number two in the country.

Top Drawer Soccer came out with their first power ranking for NCAA Division II soccer this week and has the Buccaneers second behind Cal State-Stanislaus.

BennettRank has been in love with the Bucs all season, placing them fourth in the pre-season ranking and moving them up to second this week.

The Bucs are again one of the top defensive squads in the conference and the region. They have allowed just one goal in three games for a 0.33 goals against average and have stopped six of seven shots on goal in those games for a 0.857 save percentage. Keeper Becca Rogers is tied for 25th in the nation for goals against average.

Offensively, freshman Amanda Traynor leads the team with two goals, including the game-winner against UNG. Ashley Harlan and Tamara Vuckovich each have two assists. Lauren Manna and Shanice Robe each accounted for one game-winner, Manna at Flagler and Robe against Lee.

The Bucs play three more non-conference games, including regional contests against SSC foes Florida Tech (Sept. 17) and Florida Southern (Sept. 20), before diving into SSC play on Sept. 27 at Eckerd.
