More than 30 years after Hallmark first introduced Rainbow Brite, the beloved ’80s animated series is getting a reboot.
From subscription video-on-demand service Feeln, Emily Osment and Molly Ringwald lead the voice cast in the new limited-run series, the company announced Tuesday.
The series will launch Nov. 6 with three weekly episodes.
Actress-singer-songwriter Osment will voice Rainbow Brite, the girl who embarks on adventures to save Rainbowland from destruction and dark powers. Also returning are Starlite and the Color Kids; the series will deliver what Feeln says is a message of optimism, creativity and friendship.

“Being cast as the voice of Rainbow Brite for the relaunch of this iconic show is truly an honor. I look forward to connecting with the audience, old and new, and going on this exciting adventure together,” Osment said.
Ringwald (The Breakfast Club, ABC Family’s Secret Life of the American Teenager) will voice the central villain, The Dark Princess.
“With Rainbow Brite, we believe we have created something that captures the essence of the original series — but with a vision that resonates today,” said Iris Ichishita, head of original entertainment at Feeln. “We hope audiences will react with an ‘oh my bows!’ —just like us.”
Feeln, founded in 2007 by Academy Award-winning producer Rob Fried, is a movie subscription service that caters to audiences of all ages. It’s available online and via Roku, Xbox, mobile phones and tablets.
The Rainbow Brite revival comes as nostalgia remains a top draw online and among broadcast and cable networks. Netflix this week announced it was rebooting the Care Bears with a new animated series to join The Magic School Bus, a series based on the 1990s children’s classic, among others. On the broadcast and cable networks, meanwhile, ABC has found success with 1980s-set live-action comedy The Goldbergs, and reboots of everything ranging from Tom Hanks’ Big to Tom Cruise’s Minority Report are in the works.
