Wake Forest man arrested & charged with filing false report about armed robbery

A Wake Forest man who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint earlier today has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report.

At approximately 9 a.m. Thursday, Wake Forest Police responded to a reported armed robbery at the intersection of Wait Avenue and Highgate Circle.

Raymond Michael McKinstry, 207 Highgate Circle, told police he had been robbed at gunpoint by a black male who fled on foot.

Investigators followed up with McKinstry, 43, and during the course of the investigation found several inconsistencies in his account of what happened. McKinstry later admitted he was attempting to avoid reporting to work.

This afternoon police arrested and charged McKinstry with filing a false police report - a Class 2 Misdemeanor which carries a penalty upon conviction of up to 60 days in prison, a fine of up to $1,000 or both.

The Wake Forest Police Department wishes to thank area citizens and merchants for their invaluable assistance throughout the investigation of this incident.
