Sequel in the Works for ‘We Will Rock You’ Musical?

The creative team responsible for bringing about the long-running West End musical We Will Rock You is currently working on a sequel to the show. Queen band member Bryan May made the announcement on his blog April 13 that a two-week workshop had been completed for what he called We Will Rock You II-TSMGO, a reference to the Queen song “The Show Must Go On.”

The actual post read, “The news is leakily out there. We did it! We workshopped the SEEK [sequel]… To great acclaim in a tiny room in Belsize Park… After just two weeks insanely intense 24/7 work. The seed is sown! My thanks to all for the passion that everyone put in.” Accompanying the blog post announcement is a photo of May alongside cast members who participated in the workshop.

We Will Rock You is based on the songs of rock bank Queen and features a book by Ben Elton. The musical captures the story of a group of Bohemians who struggle to restore the free exchange of thought, fashion, and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks, and does the same.

The show is directed by Christopher Renshaw and choreographed Arlene Phillips. The West End production will end its run May 31st at the Dominion Theatre after 10 years on the stage, making it the longest-running musical at the theatre. Currently, We Will Rock You is on a U.S. national tour, which launched in October 2013. To date, the show has been performed in 28 countries worldwide and has been viewed by more than 16 million people.
