The 11th annual celebration of “D?a de los Ni?os”, day of the children, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday with free games, arts and crafts projects, and other entertainment at Ferns Park. Each child in attendance will also receive a free book.

Recognized annually since 1998 by U.S. Senate resolution, D?a de los Ni?os originally was established by the National Latino Children”s Institute and now is celebrated nationally as a day for parents, families and communities to value and uplift both Latino and non-Latino children in the United States. Children”s literacy programs often are aligned closely with the day. Every child that attends the event will receive a free book.

More than 25 booths, featuring games and activities such as ring toss, loteria crafts and face painting throughout the park.

The Ballet Folklorico de Beamer will provide entertainment along with Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts Center.

“D?a de los Ni?os continues to grow as a community event that celebrates the important role children play in our community each and every day,” said Tricia Valenzuela, chairwoman of the event. “This event focuses on promoting literacy, health and wellness to children and their guardians in a fun atmosphere where kids can laugh and learn.”
