ST. GEORGE — Authorities are investigating after human remains were found approximately 45 miles south of St. George, officials confirmed Friday.
Around 2 p.m. Thursday, officials responded to the scene in the desert near county Road 101 at milepost 22 as reported by a Mohave County Road Department employee, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
When the sheriff’s deputies arrived, they recovered the lower half of a human jaw and some long bones.
The remains were turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office where identification and autopsy results are pending. Officials were unsure of the gender of the remains, as well as if the remains belonged to an adult or child, or how long the remains had been in the desert.
The incident remains under investigation.
