Two Second Half Goals Propel Men’s Soccer to Victory Over Penn College

Williamsport, Pa. - In need of a win to keep their NEAC playoff aspirations alive, the Penn State Abington men's soccer team was victorious Sunday, beating Penn College by a 2-1 score.

Abington got behind the eight ball early in the 11th minute. Penn College's Tristan Smith headed a ball past Abington goalkeeper Dan Saint-Pol (Perkasie, Pa.) for the 1-0 Wildcat lead. Neither team would score for the remainder of the first half.

Abington dominated the shot chart in the first half, outshooting Penn College by an 8-3 margin.

In the second half, Abington's hard work and pressure would pay off in a big way. Off a corner in the 58th minute, Robert Ziegler (Norristown, Pa.) scored a goal to knot the game at one all. Gustavo Alegria (Long Island, N.Y.) gathered an assist on the play.

The Blue and White's pressure continued throughout the remainder of the second half, and they would be rewarded for their efforts. Off a corner in the 74th minute, Guy Sikpa (Monrovia, Liberia) put home Gustavo Alegria's kick to give the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead. Abington would hold on for their third conference victory of the season.

Abington outshot Penn College 21-12 for the game. Dan Saint-Pol made five saves total.

With the win, the Nittany Lions record now stands at 3-7-4 on the season (3-3-3 NEAC). They will return to action next Saturday October 25, at 2:00 p.m. when they hit the road to play Bryn Athyn College in their final NEAC regular season game of the year.
