Each week, we invite a reader to share a playlist they've been listening to recently. This week it's the turn of Charline Lecarpentier, a French music journalist based in Paris. Follow her on Twitter here.
La Femme – Paris 2012
A breathless surf instrumental by a band from Biarritz. Features sirens and high tension – the perfect song for a revolution run in the burning capital.
Benjamin Paulin – Variations de Noir (Mike Simonetti Remix)
The 80s sound is a big thing back in Paris now – see Lescop, A/V or Wagner. The thing that drives me crazy about this song is that Mike Simonetti (from the label Italians Do It Better) makes you dance to sadness.
Die Jungen – I've Been Glad
A great retro project from Londoner Klaus Von Barel of dark wave project The KVB. This is more of a doo wop tribute, very lo-fi, and a sweet visit to the 50s.
Lee Hazlewood & Suzi Jane Hokom – Califia (Stone Rider
This isn't Lee Hazlewood's most mystical song, there's no Phaedra involved, but his voice still makes it a must. I recently discovered this 1970 song on a new compilation.
Yeti Lane – Analog Wheel
A very cool tune with echoes of Stereolab by this Parisian duo.
Toy – Let Myself Behind
British indie has produced so many forgettable songs, but I'm not yet bored of this one and I listen to it often. I think it's the voice, or maybe the singer's haircut, that brings to mind the Jesus & Mary Chain.
Donna Summer – Bad Girls
Whenever I'm out shopping and I hear MIA's Bad Girls over the radio, I wish it was this amazing 1979 disco tune instead, and that everyone around me would start dancing with their trollies while shaking some vegetables.
Chassol – Wersailles
This is just one of the treasures I discovered on Christophe Chassol's just released double album X-Pianos. Chassol did arrangements for Phoenix and Sebastien Tellier's albums and he's full of surprises. This is the kind of song that has so many details that it demands your attention. He takes you away with him rather than leaving you on the side of the road as some other experimental artists might.
Solange – Sandcastle Disco
I recently found this Solange song on an old hard drive and it still makes your hips move and makes the sun shine. I wonder what she's up to now – wouldn't it be nice to have some new tunes for the summer?
Splash Wave – Passing Breeze Feat Anna Jean
The super geek duo from Britanny are calmed down by the mellow voice of Anna Jean in a big bath of vintage synths.
Yan Wagner – Love Sick
This song from French dandy Wagner has a chillness and fever at the same time. It won't help you find a soulmate on the dancefloor, but it's nevertheless great to dance to.
What do you think of Jennifer's selection? Any standout tracks? Let us know in the thread below, and tell us about the songs you've had on repeat this week.
