Lady Eagles close semester with loss to St. Edward’s

Sydney Hill had 10 points, five steals and four assists for OC in the loss to St. Edward's.
Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 20, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian finished the first semester with a performance the Lady Eagles no doubt would like to forget.

OC shot just 29.3 percent from the field and trailed nearly all the way as St. Edward's (Texas) posted a 66-44 win over the Lady Eagles on Saturday afternoon in the Eagles' Nest.

OC (3-7, 0-2 Heartland Conference) managed only one 3-pointer in 11 attempts and had only two players reach double figures in scoring – McKenzie Stanford (10 points, seven rebounds) and Sydney Hill (10 points, five steals, four assists).

"There's not a whole lot to say about that game," Oklahoma Christian coach Stephanie Findley said.

St. Edward's (8-2, 2-0) focused its defensive efforts on Stanford, the conference's second-leading scorer, and limited her to 4-of-12 shooting. The Lady Eagles hurt themselves by missing 13 layups, part of a 17-of-58 shooting performance. OC also struggled at the free-throw line, going 9-of-16 (56.3 percent).

Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers shot 46.4 percent (26 of 56) and outrebounded OC 43-35. Lexi Fatheree scored 17 points for St. Edward's and Khiani Clark had 11 points and 12 rebounds.

OC fell into a quick 7-2 hole during the first two minutes. The Lady Eagles' only 3-pointer of the game, by Kaitlyn Morris with 15:49 left in the first half, and a free throw by Stanford pulled them within 9-7, but an 11-2 run by St. Edward's made it 20-9. OC had only one basket in the final five minutes of the half as the Hilltoppers built their advantage to 36-19.

St. Edward's led 42-19 with 17:59 left. The Lady Eagles rallied and eventually cut the lead to 14 points at 51-37 after a layup by Hill, but St. Edward's scored the next six points to seal the win.

OC will be off until New Year's Day, when the Lady Eagles will visit Heartland rival St. Mary's (Texas).
