ATLANTA, Ga. – The Cabrini women's basketball team completed a successful year both on the basketball court and in the classroom in 2013-14, as the Cavaliers were ranked No. 15 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Top 25 Team Honor Roll, the organization recently announced.
The Blue and White posted a team grade point average of 3.521, falling short of Westminster College by 0.121 for the nation's top spot. Cabrini also joined Ithaca College, Castleton State College, Haverford College, University of Northwestern, Carthage College and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh as the only teams to pair the academic honor with a trip to the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
On the court, fifth year head coach
Kate Pearson led Cabrini to a 24-5 record, tied for most wins in program history. The Cavaliers claimed their second consecutive CSAC championship, and seventh in program history, with an 88-59 win over Immaculata University in the title game. The club went on to top Moravian College 76-61 to earn the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point average (GPA) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2013-14 season is the 19th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
