Nintendo announced a new 3DS this morning called, simply, the New Nintendo 3DS. Following in Nintendo's handheld tradition, the New Nintendo 3DS is an iterative improvement on the original 3DS with some notable, and not-so-notable, changes. Instead of just listing those changes, we thought we'd share them using the power of the animated GIF. Behold!
TWO NEW SHOULDER BUTTONS
The new ZL and ZR buttons provide closer parity to home console controllers.
BUILT-IN NFC READER
While an attachment is being made available in 2015 for existing 3DS handhelds, the New Nintendo 3DS has built-in NFC support for Nintendo's upcoming amiibo toys (which are available for pre-order now, priced at $12.99 each).
BETTER 3D VIEWING ANGLES
The New Nintendo 3DS promises an improved viewing angle over the original 3DS' notoriously narrow window of usability.
SWAPPABLE COVERS
Customize your New 3DS, and pair the handheld's theme with the cover.
A SECOND ANALOG NUB
Absent from the original DS and the 3DS, a second analog nub was only avaible by way of the clunky Circle Pad Pro attachment ... but no longer! Along with the new shoulder buttons, the second analog nub should make it easier to port console games, and their control schemes, to the 3DS.
A FASTER PROCESSOR
The most controversial enhancement, the new CPU will not only allow faster eShop downloads, as demonstrated in this GIF, but also entirely new games that won't work on an existing 3DS, like Xenoblade Chronicles.
IT'S BIGGER (AND SMALLER)
This is good news for those of us with large hands. Though the New Nintendo DS LL/XL is actually a little lighter!
SUPER SECRET MICRO SD SLOT
Where's the Micro SD slot? It's a secret.
