An update from the Turners at MFM Haiti

Good evening,

To say the least we are rejoicing exceedingly. I am so anxious to tell you about it.

Over a year ago the Directors of the Agricultural Ministry, Rickey Minton and David Hill, along with some other MFM officials met here at the mission and discussed a fish project. It was agreed we must pursue this project. But try as we might, no one felt led to finance it.

Presently, we feed about 61 children and some young adults and the price of food has skyrocketed. The bag or rice we used to buy for $85.00 Haitian dollars, and we now pay 420.00H. Eight pounds of beans we used to buy for $15.00-$18.00H now often costs 60.00H.

Meat is just out of the question. The Director of the Children's Home would point out to me the children looked fat but many had that red tint to their hair. And that means there is a lack of protein in their diet. I told her I didn't know what to do. I'd tried and tried and all doors seemed to be shut. She said "Well, we are going to pray" and pray they did.

Right out of a clear blue sky one of our sons felt led to finance this project. Presently, you can see in the photos we have 3 ponds full of fish. In another photo you will see another block depot with enough feed in it to raise these fish to eating size.

Day after day the children gather around the pond to watch the fish grow. If you were here, you might hear them yell, "Pastor, they are big enough to eat." Really they are not. They were about 2 inches long when they came from the hatchery. The first ones are now about 6 inches long.

With these 3 ponds, we can supply the children with enough fish every other month. My, how we would like to have 3 more ponds! To dig one pond, fill it with little fish and buy enough feed to grow them to eating size will cost about $600.00 U.S.  I know many of you out there would like to help. Maybe someone would like to furnish all 3 ponds for $1800.00 U.S. Maybe you'd like to finance all three but are only able to finance one. Or possibly, you can only do half a pond. Maybe you have a good friend who would like to go in and partner with you.

Please pray about this. Then email back quickly as to what God says He wants you to do.

God bless you so much. You are such wonderful people. I count it a high honor that God has permitted Wilma and I to be a part of your MFM Family.

Blessings,
The Turners
