Dolphins in the bay are not an uncommon sight.

"In the early 1980s, bottlenose dolphins were first observed in Monterey Bay," according to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. "This species is now considered a resident and usually stays within one km of shore along sandy beaches, traveling just outside the breakers."
