Captain Frederick van Wyk, Western Cape Police spokesperson has confirmed that a 47-year-old man has been detained at Randburg Police cells in connection with the murder of his spouse that occured in Cape Town. Although van Wyk refrained from indulging in further details, he did say that the man was a resident of a Johannesburg suburb.

Rosebank Killarney Gazette can confirm that the man in question is indeed Jason Rohde, CEO of Lew Geffen Sotheby’s.

According to a report by News24, Rohde was arrested at his home in Bryanston on the morning of 23 August.

Jason Rohde, CEO of Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International is set to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court today.

This comes after police launched a murder investigation after a post-mortem found bruising on his wife, Susan Rohde’s neck, indicating she had been strangled.

According to an article in the Sunday Times, Susan was found dead in the bathroom of the couple’s suite at the Spier wine estate, in Stellenbosch on 24 July.

When an estate employee was called by Jason to open the locked bathroom door, Susan was found in a kneeling position with an electrical cord around her neck.

The couple, from Johannesburg, had been attending a company function at Spier’s four-star hotel.

Rohde’s lawyer, Daniel Witz of WCIS Attorneys is currently in court and was unable to comment.
