Cross Country Takes Pair of Second Place Finishes at HSU CC Stampede

Naraly Rodriguez took home an individual championship and the men's and women's teams each earned second place finishes Saturday morning at the 2014 Hardin Simmons Cross Country Stampede at Sea Bee Park in Abilene, Texas.

Rodriguez won the women's 4,800 meter race, taking first in 18:19.83. Following four McMurry runners, Gabby Valeriano and Ale Bahena took 6th and 7th in 19:20.04 and 19:25.98, respectively. Desiree Bustamante finished in 14th with a time of 20:15.23, and Jessica Hasson was the fifth and final UTPB individual time to count for team points in 26th in 21:29.32.

The UTPB men placed three runners in the top six in the 6,400 meter race. Brandon Summers placed fourth in 21:24.14 while Alfonso Lozoya was a spot back in fifth in 21:45.52 and Kaleb Neptune finished in 21:52.41 for a 6th place finish. Jacob benavides ran in 22:12.92 for a 14th place result and Jarom Boswell was the fifth UTPB finisher in 21st and a time of 22:55.58.

Both teams are back in action in two weeks, traveling to the UIW Invitational hosted by Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
