Liverpool is not braced for snow - despite stories going viral predicting otherwise.

Despite the recent cold snap, Met Office forecasters have ruled out any impending adverse weather on Merseyside insisting snow is not on the agenda.

People in Liverpool were today aflutter with talk of snow and weather warnings - however it seems many were sharing a story dating back to early this year.

A Met Office spokesman, said: "People have may have been talking about snow as it's been the 'end of summer' and the temperature has certainly gotten colder.

"There was a light dusting of the mountains in Scotland - but that's normal for this time of year, In fact it's perhaps even later than usual.

"In fact, if anything, it is going to get a bit milder as the week goes on. Temperatures are rising to nine degrees and highs of 12."

And the possibility of a white Christmas on Merseyside?

"It's far, far too early to predict," he added. "You're the first person in the country to ask! There are so many factors for snow to occur - even a fraction out and you will have rain or sleet."
