Armed robbery, Maroochydore

Police have charged a man following an armed robbery in Maroochydore yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 4.15pm a man entered the supermarket on Wises Road and collected goods from the shelves.

Police will allege as the cashier opened the cash register, the man attempted to take cash from the drawer but the cashier grabbed his arms.

It will further be alleged the man then threatened the employee with a pair of scissors and then continued to remove the cash.

He was detained by staff and members of the public when attempting to leave the store and was arrested by police a short time later.

A 29-year-old Maroochydore man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court this morning (July 1).
