UPDATE: After seeing his note go viral Gruber has tweeted a clarification to his earlier statement, saying that he has "no idea" whether Apple is planning to release the wearable device in September or October and that he was "just making a joke." The wait for the Apple wearable continues.

NEW YORK — Most observers expect Apple's upcoming September 9th event to focus on one or more new iPhones, with the long awaited Apple wearable device likely to be announced at a separate event in October.

Apple watcher John Gruber however thinks the wait might not be that long. Gruber says the Cupertino-company may announce the wearable at the same event next month. As with many of his posts on his Daring Fireball website, Gruber's note on the Apple wearable is brief, referring to it as a "wrist wearable thing."

So while many folks believe that Apple's wearable will indeed be a watch (possibly called "iTime"), there have been reports claiming the company will instead introduce a bracelet-like fitness band. According to the website 9to5Mac, Apple has been working with Kobe Bryant and other athletes to test the new wearable device's fitness capabilities, with Bryant spotted on the Apple campus earlier this year.

Gruber has a strong track record with Apple rumors, in the past correctly reporting on the initial size of the iPad Mini as well as last year's two new iPhone models, the iPhone 5S and 5C.
