The Carthage College men's soccer team played NCAA Division II and No. 5 Rollins University to a 2-2 in regulation in a Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014 scrimmage at the Barker Family Stadium in Winter Park Fla.
Â
Carthage won the penalty shoot-out by converting eight-of-10. Tied 3-3 after the first five shooters, another five shooters were selected.  Carthage goalkeeper
Jovani Mata saved two shots in the first round, and goalkeeper
Nick Huftalin also saved two in the second round.
Â
Carthage got out to a fast start controlling much of the tempo, owning possession and a heavy shot advantage. The Tars, however, converted the game's first goal near the middle point of the match when a Carthage defender failed to clear a ball in the penalty box following a Rollins corner kick.
Â
Carthage answered with a goal of its own from a set piece just minutes later.Â
Cale Brown out-leaped Rollin's goalkeeper off a throw-in from
Jamie Tausend to knot the score at 1-1. Cale scored off a header and Tausend was credited the assist.
Â
Both teams battled through tremendous heat with Rollin's Grant Blackhurst and Tosan Popo trying to combine often, but Carthage's backline lead by
Atli Einarsson was up to the shutdown effort.
Â
With seven minutes remaining in regulation, Rollins was awarded a free-kick 35 yards out the goal. Alexis Martinez stepped up and drilled a ball top left corner beating Carthage goalkeeper
Lucas Dykstra, who played the final 30 minutes. With the much of the last third of the game a battle of stamina, Carthage again came right back.Â
Austin Bitta stole a through-pass and delivered a wide ball to
Arnoldo Reyes, who delivered a well-slotted ball to
Michael Dombrowski, who then converted on a one-touch goal. The game stayed knotted at two apiece.
Â
Carthage looked to take the lead for good, with
Michael Dombrowski following up Taylor Pigantaro's driven shot on goal beating Rollins goalkeeper. However the official ruled it offside after the goal.

Carthage opens its regular-season schedule at Olivet College on Friday Aug. 29th, 2014 at 7 p.m., EDT.
