NEWARK, NJ - Men's soccer athlete
Marko Drljic, from Koper,Slovenia was named NJIT Male Athlete of the Week for his performance through September 22.
The senior led his team this week with one goal and two assists in two games. In doing so he tied past teammate
Franco Gamero on the NJIT Division I Era all-time scoring list with 34 points.
In the Highlanders 3-1 win against LIU Brooklyn on September 17, Drljic scored a goal in the second minute when his initial shot was saved by the LIU goalkeeper who could not control, and Drljic drove the rebound into the back of the net. He then added an assist in the second half when he took the corner kick that
Jimmy Myers headed in for the third goal of the game.
When the Highlanders defeated #22 Navy 1-0 on September 20, Drljic assisted
Joshua Mercer's goal when he took a hard shot from the left side of the box that the Navy goalkeeper could not keep his hands on, and Mercer capitalized on the loose ball for NJIT's first home win against a Top 25 team.
