Madison Southern running back Damien Harris has been selected as the winner of the Paul Hornung Award as the best high school football player in Kentucky, presented by the Louisville Quarterback Club.

Harris, the nation's No. 1 running back and No. 11 overall senior by Rivals.com, will be honored during a luncheon at Big Spring Country Club on Dec. 17, Louisville Quarterback Club President Gordon Crawford said.

Harris, an Under Armour All-American, ran 99 times for 1,474 yards (14.9 per-carry average) and 23 touchdowns this season in only seven games. He missed four games with a knee injury.

Harris is the top recruiting target of the University of Kentucky, and he's expected to take an official visit to Lexington this weekend. He officially visited Alabama two weekends ago and Ohio State in September. He's also considering Florida and Texas A&M with a decision planned for Jan. 9.

He hosted Alabama coach Nick Saban and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer for visits at his home on Tuesday.

The high school Paul Hornung Award – independent from the one that goes to college football's most versatile player – is named after the Flaget High School legend who went on to win the Heisman Trophy at Notre Dame, then star for the Green Bay Packers.

John Hardin's Matt Elam was last year's winner, and Trinity's James Quick was the 2012 recipient. Past winners include Male's Michael Bush, Trinity's Brian Brohm, Leslie County's Tim Couch, Male's Chris Redman and Boone County's Shaun Alexander.
