Charges: Theft and dangerous driving, Ipswich

Police have charged three teenage boys following an incident that began in Ipswich this morning.

Just before 10am, police were notified of an alleged stolen vehicle at the intersection of Brisbane and Bell streets.

They intercepted the vehicle containing three teenage boys at the intersection of Gordon and South streets, and as officers left their police car, the driver allegedly drove the vehicle towards a police officer who was forced to move out of its path. It will be further alleged that as the vehicle began to drive south down Gordon Street, it struck two police vehicles, causing significant damage to one.

A pursuit of the vehicle ensued along Warwick Road and Lobb Street before travelling onto an off-ramp on Brisbane Street. At this stage police abandoned the pursuit due to the alleged dangerous driving of the teenage driver.

The vehicle continued to travel down Brisbane Street, where it allegedly collided with another car and then a bus. The vehicle was later located abandoned on Simmons Street at Raymonds Hills.

A search of the area involving local police, the police helicopter and dog squad was successful in detaining the three teenagers.

16-yr-old boy from Brassall has been charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed and failure to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash.  He was also charged with two counts each of wilful damage and failure to stop, and three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Another 16-year-old boy from Raceview has been charged with one count each of robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fraud, and two counts of attempted fraud.

A 13-yr-old North Ipswich boy was also charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Each of the boys will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
