While people were trying to knock the Black Girls Rock movement on social media, Beverly Bond didn’t let the hate stop her hustle and is now out to prove Black girls are also capable of leading.
The powerhouse and founder behind the nonprofit organization and the popular BET awards ceremony recently announced Black Girls Lead, an international leadership conference launching Summer 2015 in New York City.

Open to Black girls internationally, Black Girls Lead aims to give young women between the ages of 13-17, “access to [our] innovative programs and empowering ideals,” according to Bond.
The founder spoke of the summer conference in a recent press release saying, “the overall goal of this leadership conference is to host a ‘meeting of the minds’ amongst young people who have displayed excellence individually, but who will also benefit from out pedagogy which highlights teamwork and collective responsibility for emerging thought leaders and active change agents.”
For four days at New York City’s Barnard College, Columbia University, 60 girls will take part in workshops and panels on social action, cultural and financial literacy, technology, and entrepreneurship, to name a few.
