Why this petition matters

Started by Michelle Vrieze

The Renovation of Kyle Field by Texas A&M University has made about 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats homeless. These bats have lived in the stadium home for 87 years. Officials at Texas A&M were made aware that alternate habitat should be provided for these bats before renovation began, but they chose to ignore the advice. Now, unless something is done, these poor innocent bats will surely die. Bats worldwide are are already declining in numbers from White Nose Syndrome. Free-tailed bats in particular are known as the "Billion Dollar Bats" due to the amount of insects they control and the help they provide to farmers. Saving these bats will save not only their lives but will keep insect populations down, thereby keeping the ecosystem healthy. Please urge Texas A&M to take responsibility for their irresponsible actions and quickly move forward with designating a nearby space for these homeless bats and then erecting large bat condos similar to the two successful bat condos created at the University of Florida. Anything less is unacceptable.
