What will you be drinking on April 17th? 
If I were to make a suggestion - perhaps some you should pour a plush and purplish Malbec into your glass.
Canadians continue to gobble up this approachable and affordable variety. Although fruit is always at the forefront (supported by spice, chocolate or coffee notes and sometimes highlighted with a whiff of violets), Argentine Malbec leans toward savoury - a character, which partners well with hearty pastas (mushrooms love it) as much as the famous Argentine beef.
It's a red variety that continues to sell and to improve due to impressive international backing. The world's most famous winemakers and consultants have all been wooed to Mendoza and beyond.
The first Malbec World Day was celebrated two years ago and has spread around the world to include over 70 events in 45 countries.
That's a lot of Malbec.
I'll be tangoing across Argentina on the 17th, but for those of you sticking around there are great events happening across the Lower Mainland.

Malbec World Day Celebrates in British Columbia with Free Tastings

In-store tastings to stock your cellar for Malbec World Day
· Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 2013 in more than 20 BCLDB Signature Stores in British Columbia
· Saturday, April 13, 2013 the following private retailers will also host celebrations that will include food pairing
o Marquis Wine Cellar - 2:00 - 5:00 pm
o Legacy Liquor Store - 2:00 - 6:00 pm
o Everything Wine Stores - all 3 locations from 2:00 - 6:00 pm
These free tastings will give consumers an opportunity to 'stock up' for Malbec World Day while putting British Columbia on the map of celebrations being held around the world on Wednesday, April 17th, 2013. They are a great opportunity to explore what Argentina has to offer.
