How AAP ads are annoying the hell out of Delhi

At what stage does a political party grow up? In Delhi, the AAP government is now making many of us feel as frustrated as an innocent bystander trapped in a slow elevator with an out-of-control child. Because it's going to be five long years before the elevator reaches the final floor, and the kid is already hysterical!

The irony is that the punchline of the advertisement the Delhi government is running ad nauseum: "Vo pareshaan karte rahe, hum kaam karte rahe", applies to us. The troubled lot are us, the ordinary citizens of Delhi, and not the AAP government at all. We are the ones quietly toiling to generate the money - only to get lectured by Kejri and company.

I am no supporter of the Congress, but I have genuinely begun to miss Sheila Dikshit! Come back, Sheila, all is forgiven! Compared to this "boy band", the ex CM was the soul of discretion. And the mystery is that she actually improved many parts of Delhi without bludgeoning us, as Kejri and company do, with that information throughout the day... In newspapers, on radio, on TV... Even on buses! Is there nothing this man will not do in order to annoy us?

Since it is the taxpayer's money that is being so recklessly spent, perhaps we have a right to ask why the ads are:

a) Poorly conceptualised

b) Have low production values, and

c) Are there at all?

In fact, so far anytime the "pareshaan" advertisement pops up on television there is a collective rush for the mute button. To our despair , the "pareshaan" ads have even appeared on tourist buses! Should precious space, which ought to be used to promote tourism, be plastered with personal grievances?

Apart from that, the ads are way behind the times. No one in this country believes any more that just by doubling or trebling budgets you can achieve miracles or even take some tiny steps forward in development. So announcing, in the ads, that they have spent many more crores on "health" or "education" impresses no one. Splashing money is no criteria for efficiency: What we need to examine is whether the AAP has managed to have a physical impact on anything? So far, all that they have impacted is our tolerance.

And can they please get a psychiatric check for paranoia? According to them, everyone from the president down to the beat constable is out to get them! They must calm down, and stop throwing away our money on vocalising their private turmoil.

Please. I truly want, as a citizen of Delhi, that my money should be better spent. As someone said the other day, "Can't we just build hundreds of toilets with the money being thrown on these ads? At least then the sh*t will go down the right way".

Instead of sympathy, the ads have generated extreme annoyance. More so because the party actually believes that by plastering their messages everywhere, it will convince the electorate that they, the poor AAP, are being targeted. Unfortunately, the reality is that it is the electorate that is pointing a finger back at the AAP, saying "Vo pareshaan karte rahe, hum kaam karte rahe". Can we have more action and less words please?
