Hampden Hi-Fi Hopes to Return

The concert series closes out its debut season Friday, and organizers are hopeful it will return next summer.

Genny Dill, who helped plan the event, said organizers intend to hold the concert series next year, but that depends on a few things.

"We plan to [hold the concerts again] if we can get enough volunteers and sponsors to make it happen because it is quite expensive," Dill said.

Dill said putting on the concert, which involves paying for permits, police officers and bands, costs about $20,000 for eight weeks.

She said the series, which launched in early June, was hindered by weather problems. So far, two of the seven concerts had to be moved inside due to inclement weather.

Even the final performance, scheduled for 6 p.m., could be impacted by predicted thunderstorms. Dill said a decision on whether to hold the concert outside or move it in to the recreation center will be made later this afternoon.
