Most people don’t think of knitting as tough, competitive race against the clock, but that’s exactly what it will be at Tocal Homestead on June 12.

The Back to Back International Wool Challenge involves a local team the Spinning Knitwits racing to get wool from a sheep’s back to a human’s back in under eight hours.
The Spinning Knitwits are the only team in Australia taking part, but teams from around the globe will participate in the competition from their respective countries.
The event is a fundraiser for cancer research. At Tocal, the funds raised on the day are presented to the Mater Hospital cancer research unit in Newcastle.
Event organiser Carolyn Bourne said many people turnout to watch the event for a gold coin donation, but that there are plenty of other activities to enjoy on the day.
There will be a raffle, shearing demonstrations, knitting races, live music and refreshments.
The homestead will be open from 8am, with the competition starting at 9am sharp.
