Report: Cubs TV Ratings Are Doubling Last Year's Numbers

(CBS) With the MLB season just more than halfway over, Cubs games are averaging a 3.0 rating on Comcast SportsNet Chicago, double that of 2014's season rating of 1.5, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

That equates to about 104,000 households in the Chicago area tuning in to each game, Crain's reported.

The bigger numbers come at a time in which the Cubs have shown a resurgence on the field at 47-40, which is their best mark at the All-Star break since 2008, the last time the team made the postseason. The emergence of youngsters like rookies Kris Bryant and Addison Russell has certainly helped draw more viewers as well.

The Cubs' 1.5 rating in 2014 was the fifth-worst local ratings in all of baseball, according to Crain's.

On the other side of town, the White Sox haven't seen such an uptick. White Sox games on CSN Chicago are drawing a 0.9 rating after 56 broadcasts, a 19 percent decrease from last season's season average, Crain's reported. That's around 35,000 households tuning in per game. The White Sox drew a 1.1 season rating in 2014, per Crain's.

The White Sox have had a disappointing first half of the season in going 41-45 after a handful of splashy offseason acquisitions.
