UPDATE: Alert lifted after fire at Three Mile Island: U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission

abc27 reported that an electrical fire at Three Mile Island caused the facility to go under emergency status just before 10 p.m.

Officials told the TV station that a fire was extinguished in a secondary part of the plant before emergency crews arrived and that the public is not in any danger.

Exelon Nuclear followed the initial report with its own status update, confirming that a small fire had taken place and there was no impact to public safety or the plant itself.

Middletown released a statement on the borough's Facebook as well, saying that officials told borough officials that there was never any danger of radiation being released.
