Meet the Porcupines at Flanders

A new program is planned at Flanders Nature Center on February 27

As part of their ongoing adult programming to promote further understanding and appreciation of nature, art and the environment, Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust is offering a program on the North American porcupine.

North American Porcupines are large, solitary rodents commonly found in New England including Connecticut. Although they are elusive and mostly nocturnal, they can be found perched in the top of a tree during the day. A porcupine typically has 20,000 to 30,000 quills which cover most of its body. These quills are sharp and range from one to three inches in length.

Find out more about the history and habits of one of Connecticut’s most fascinating species and the world’s third largest rodent from CT DEEP Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator Gerri Griswold who will be leading the program. She will be bringing along a live porcupine that is under her department’s care for participants to meet.
