Guwahati: The flood situation in the state improved on Tuesday with rainfall diminishing in the state and in the catchment areas in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the state disaster management authority, more than 8,000 people remained affected on Tuesday against 92,000 on Monday.
Only 854 people are now in four relief camps in Dibrugarh.
The Burhidihing River in Dibrugarh district is the only river flowing above the danger level mark, according to the central water commission.
The overall flood situation in the upper Assam districts also showed an improvement, with rainfall showing a receding trend in the last 24 hours.
Elsewhere, day temperatures hovered above normal in parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
The Met office on Tuesday, however, predicted rain or thundershower in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura.
The Met office further warned that thunder squall with wind speed exceeding 50 km per hour is likely to occur at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura in the next three days.
Heavy rainfall at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday were also predicted by the Met office. For Guwahati city, partly cloudy sky is expected on Wednesday.
