We’re still a long ways from being sick of Lorde covers. But while “Royals” has pretty much run its course, getting the tribute treatment from everyone from Puddles the Sad Clown to Boston’s Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys — hell, there’s even parody by the Westboro Baptist Church — we are pleased to see bands starting to take on Lorde’s current hit “Team.”
CHVRCHES electro-popped up the song recently, and the Huffington Post reported on their favorite five independent “Lorde” covers off YouTube.
But here comes Chicago rock duo Local H.
Scott Lucas is no stranger to cover songs, but Local H really take this one across the mud, giving an otherwise perfect pop song some guitar fangs and breathing new life into it. Lucas gives it the gritty rock and roll treatment we expect from the music veteran.
The accompanying video, posted up top, was culled together from fan-filmed live clips and some recent studio footage, and it gives us our first glimpse of new drummer Ryan Harding, who recently replaced longtime member Brian St. Clair.
Local H are about to head out on a 28-date United States tour that comes to Great Scott in Allston on April 24, so hopefully they’ll bust out this cover. Check out all the dates below…
