Look Inside Cunard Tavern, Debuting in Eastie Next Week

A new addition to Jeffries Point

Cunard Tavern finally opens next week at 24 Orleans St. in East Boston’s Jeffries Point neighborhood. The long-awaited restaurant is slated to debut on Tuesday, June 27 in a newly constructed building, featuring twists on pub classics and a rooftop with a view.

The restaurant has been in the works since early 2014, when owner Phil Frattaroli began making moves to gain the neighborhood’s support for the new restaurant. Along with his father Filippo, Frattaroli operates Filmark Hospitality Group, which is also responsible for North End restaurants Lucia Ristorante, Ducali Pizzeria, and Filippo Ristorante. Cunard Tavern is built on the site where the Frattaroli family’s cabinet-making business once stood.

Now, three years later, the Frattarolis are ready to unveil the final product. They brought in chef Anthony Pino to serve as Cunard Tavern’s executive chef. Pino will oversee the menu of New England-inspired dishes that have a global spin. Expect to see items such as octopus dumplings, tuna crudo, Cuban spring rolls, and a harissa-braised short rib and potato waffle. On the beverage side, there will be 10 craft beers on tap, plus cocktails and a large selection of whiskey and other liquors.

The restaurant spans the first level and roof of the new building, which also has residential units and a yoga studio. There are 65 seats in the dining room, with a 10-seat bar, and the roof has room for 35.
