HERE IS YOUR NEW ISSUE OF HOLY GROUND
What sort of look do you have on your face, when God appears in your life? I find the varied expressions artists give to Mary in depictions of the annunciation interesting. One artist gives us a cringing Mary, solemn and frightened. Another shows wonder, awe. Sometimes you see purity, innocence, curiosity.
How do you respond, when some visitor enters your life and totally shakes up and restructures your reality? I am often far from calm and full of wonder.
This issue, "Let Go and Keep at It," considers the ongoing task of letting go. Today many people feel disillusioned and betrayed. If my life and the life of my country is not going as I had hoped or planned, I may feel resentful and bitter. Fear is rampant and anger much closer to the surface of our culture than awe and wonder.
Such a time as this cries out for deeper faith and courage. For it is here, right in the mess of this world and our personal challenges, that God is meeting us.
The angel asks, "Will you be a mother, a father of salvation? Will you bring forth the Christ child in your time and place?"
Don't make that angel wait too long.
He has a lot of people on his calling list.
