Leave it up to music artists to bring edge to the Oscars. The Academy Awards kicked off Sunday night March 2 in California. While Charlize Theron stunned in Christian Dior, and Julia Roberts wowed in Givenchy, singers were the ones who brought raw swagger to the red carpet.

Although Pharrell Williams left his Vivienne Westwood hat at home, he made up for it showing some leg on the red carpet. The Best Original Song nominee rocked a navy Lanvin suit while showing off his legs in shorts. The shorts picked up so much traction that a Twitter handle (@Pharrell_shorts) was made within seconds of them hitting the carpet. The hat did make a cameo later in the show as the singer took to the stage to perform “Happy” in glittering red kicks.
Speaking of sparkling color, Liza Minnelli was another singer who flashed her edgy side working an electric blue pantsuit. Of course Liza didn’t stop there, the icon accessorized the cobalt blue look with a matching blue streak in her hair. Who knew Liza could do punk rock?
Bette Midler was less rocker and more sexy showgirl as the Divine Miss M showed off her curves in a fiery red Reem Acra Fall 2014 dress complete with delicate embroidery. P!nk also rocked a killer red gown as she performed “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” as a tribute to ‘The Wizard Of Oz.’
Lady Gaga was an unexpected but welcomed attendee at the awards show. The “Applause” singer continued her newly refined style as she sashayed down the carpet in a shimmering metallic pale pink Versace dress that recalled Old Hollywood glamour.

But of course, the only musician to actually walk away with an awards was 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto, who also rocked a retro look as he won Best Supporting Actor, wearing a white Saint Laurent blazer and maroon bowtie.
