Academy Award nominated actress Amy Adams will portray rock legend Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic called Get It While You Can, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Adams’ name was first rumored to play Joplin in 2010, but the film has been stuck in development hell ever since. In 2012, it was reported that Adams had dropped out of the project and replaced by Tony Award winner Nina Arianda.
With lead casting finally settled, producers are now in hunt for a director and have reportedly zeroed in on Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild). Filming is expected to begin in the second half of 2015.
The next few years are shaping up to feature an impressive slate of music biopics, including Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams and Paul Dano as Brian Wilson, in addition to films about N.W.A. and a Guns N’ Roses.
