It’s been a busy month. I’ve been working on the edit of For More Mischief, Call Loki, which I’m sure many of you are excited about. (Mischief5) The cover has been put together, for which you get to see the cover reveal here first (yeah!). I rearranged the booth setup for my audiobook since I wasn’t happy with the sound I was getting, so that meant I had to go back and start recording The Three Books all over again. I’m now back about half way through recording it. I wish it didn’t take so long to edit it, but I want it to sound good, so I’m taking my time. I’m hoping to be able to provide all you readers with a free audio chapter from the book in next month’s newsletter. And, I’ve been working on the fourth book in the Sacred Knight series. So, all that has been taking up a lot of my time this last month. All worth it. Okay, I wish I was painting too, but time will come for that again soon. As I said in my last newsletter, I’m setting up new rhythms and routines and all that takes some time to get into place. Some days I wonder if I’m still trying to place too many new habits, but I also know that I have the ability to create my life the way I desire it. I’m also realistic enough to know an airplane just doesn’t whip around in mid-air to go in a different direction; no, it has to make a wide arcing turn.

In the end, I realize that there are a lot of projects I want to work on and the truth is that it’s hard to focus on more than one thing at a time. I think of the analogy that Barbara Winter gave in her book Making a Living without a Job (not a direct quote, but summarized):

A plate-spinner starts by spinning one plate. Once he has that one spinning and stable, he adds another, then another. All the effort is put into getting the plate spinning. After that, it takes very little to keep them in motion. Soon, he has ten plates that he is maintaining with little effort.

I love this image, maybe because I relate to it so well. I often feel like I have several plates spinning and I’m trying not to lose them. Unfortunately, I do lose momentum (or I have in the past), and it’s one of the things I’m working hard on overcoming. It’s not easy because I’m not a very patient person. I like to see results fast. If I have to wait, I’m likely to move onto the next shiny object. Yeah, definitely something I’m working on. Well, maybe I should say that I’m trying harder to be the plate-spinner, dealing with one plate at a time rather than five or ten. Now that’s really hard for me because I have always had multiple projects going at once. Unfortunately, recently, some of my other projects have come from my personal life – like raising two boys – so I really have to scale back other things knowing that my life is constantly fuller than I’m thinking about in one pie-slice of a moment.

Have I kept you waiting long enough?

Okay, yes, I have. Let’s get onto it. And now, the cover for the upcoming novella in The Loki Adventures: For More Mischief, Call Loki.
