Will Ferrell is a man of many talents. Apparently, one of them is singing a dead-on interpretation of the theme from the 1960's Star Trek series, which is certainly ... something. Ferrell demonstrated the skill last night on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Watch as Kevin Hart tries his best to keep it together as magic happens to his left.
Even in this lovingly high-pitched tribute, however, Ferrell isn't doing the song justice. True Trek geeks know that the original Star Trek theme had lyrics, written by Gene Roddenberry so he could get a cut of the royalties from the theme. The lyrics are:
Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me.
Come back when you're ready to sing the theme as it was written, Will. For inspiration, here's some guy on YouTube singing the original lyrics as they were (never) meant to be heard:
