Three Broncs (2-0-1) freshmen combined on all the scoring, as
Andreya Barrera and
Allyson Smith each had a goal and assist while
Aimie Inthoulay set-up both plays with crosses.
The Broncs got the scoring started at the 10:26 mark in the first, when Inthoulay sent a cross from the right corner that Smith deflected to Barrera for the first home goal in program history.
At the 23:57 mark, Inthoulay sent the ball close to the net from the top of the box, and then Barrera knocked the ball to Smith who buried it to put the Broncs up 2-0.
The Broncs prevented the Rams (0-2-0) from even attempting a shot until 57:34 into the match. The Rams' first shot on goal came from
Morgan Seeliger off of passes from
Cristinia Montealvo and
Erica Ramos and led to the Rams' lone goal at the 60:18 mark.
That was it against freshman goalkeeper and Harlingen South alum
Erica Gonzalez (1-0-0), who made two saves in her first-career start.
Rams goalkeeper
Evelyn Martinez (0-2-0) countered with 14 saves as the Broncs outshot the Rams 31-4, including 16-3 on goal.
The Broncs open up a six-match road trip on Friday at 3 p.m. when they visit Grambling State.
